About
Happy Coconut Retriever puppy outdoors

After internship and residency training, I began my career in the specialty referral center environment. I thrived on getting to the root of my patients’ neurologic problems and watching them recover and return home with tails wagging. But I also experienced the rigors of a tight schedule and consistently long hours, and saw the effects of burn-out on my team. “There has to be a better way” would often nag in the back of my mind - a way in which pets heal in a familiar and comfortable environment, pet owners receive the attention they deserve, and primary care veterinarians are empowered and excited by neurologic cases. I wanted to bring specialty neurology care home.

Thus Virtual Veterinary Neurology was born.

To the primary care veterinarian: There is no limit to what you can do, and you don’t have to do it alone. Your days are full of routine bloodwork with unexpected abnormalities, emergency patients requiring care in the middle of an already overstretched schedule, your desire to perform the highest level of care in the midst of stress, empathy overwhelm, financial constraints, and decision fatigue. I’ve been there. Let me take some of that off your shoulders. Let me provide you step by step guidance on managing your neurologic patients, so you can be the one to implement the plan and see for yourself the difference you can make in the life of a neurologic pet, and in the life of their owner.

To the pet owner: Neurologic disease in pets often happens without warning. It can be quick, it can be scary, and it can be serious. But it doesn’t have to be hopeless. We have medicines to help pets with seizures, strokes, brain inflammation (meningitis, encephalitis), spinal pain, dizziness, disorientation, weakness, and even paralysis. Working alongside your primary care veterinarian, we give your pet our best - so they can feel better, be home with you, and get that tail back to wagging.

Dr. Jennifer Rich is a board-certified veterinary neurologist through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) with over a decade of clinical experience diagnosing and treating neurologic veterinary patients. She finds particular passion in networking within the veterinary community and in developing healthy boundaries for mental well-being within the profession.
Dr. Jennifer is not only an advocate for her patients, but also for the primary care veterinarians on the front line.
